Room for debate

How would not attending college right after high school affect me? Many students planning their future ask themselves this question, but what do most of them conclude? As i have concluded, going to college right out of high school does not have to be a first choice, but attending college at some point in your life should be an option. AS the director of Georgetown University on Education and the Workforce, Anthony Carnevale states that the need for having a diploma is increasing whereas unskilled jobs are minimal. As an alternative for attending colleges, students can work up skills and life experiences for an ideal career, join the military, find on self to know what job they want to pursue,  study abroad or even travel. Some people may choose not to attend college because they need to work straight out of high school to take care of their family, but in the long run you would make more money with a degree than not attending school. So, if you must, you can take care of family and then go to college later in life. For those joining the military, the government will pay for some college if money too is the issue. Colleges like to see that you have worked in some programs like those for the field you would like to go into, so if you would like to go find internships that do not require a major background, you can travel that road before attending college. As the international president of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Wokers, R. THomas Buffenbarger says that the need for skilled jobs will increase, so the government should have vocational classes in high school, more apprenticeships for industry, and high tech. institues in each state to help meet this demand. College should be an option, even if it comes later in life.

“This planet doesn’t need more ‘successful’ people but is in desperate need of more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers and lovers of every shape and form. It needs people who live well in their places. It needs people of moral courage willing to join the fight to make the world habitable and humane. And these needs have very little to do with success - the way our culture has defined it.”

POST 1: "THE GIRL WHO SILENCED THE WORLD" REFLECTION

What has our world become? What Severn Suzuku spoke in front of our politicians, business men, and delegates more or less then a decade ago.I used to think about what she says all the time. I used to also think what those in Brazil thought. If I was rich, I would help those who needed it, even if that meant I didn’t get any of the wealth. I am glad somebody spoke upon things that are important to our health, our planet, and our future, although this was so long ago and nothing much has really changed. Today, our generation and government care about who has what new investment, who has the most money, and who has the power. We lack the knowledge of what is really occurring. Although some may believe that saving a forest is not as important as having people out of the streets and ending wars, we could incorporate more energy efficient things into these procedures as well as distribute the goods that Americans and many others are selfish with. Many environmentalist stand outside to collect money to raise awareness and save certain things that will effect all of us rather than just their beliefs, but we fear fraud or being late to the next thing on our schedules. Today, we are too busy to think of the big future, and think of only what is right in front of us. Today, our generations care more about the technologies of the world for personal enjoyment rather than the technologies that could save lives. We are becoming more reliant on the resources that are decaying and the animals that are dying. We are not looking within ourselves to ask the right questions or taking the right actions to lead our own fates. What will you do to save your life, your kids lives and other lives?
